With a little more than a month left of the 2020-21 school year, officials with the River Road Independent School District are making preparations to finish this school year, and prepare for the next one, to be as safe as possible as the COVID-19 pandemic continues throughout the Texas Panhandle.
Because of executive order GA-34 implemented by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott in March, which lifted the state’s mask mandate and gave all businesses the ability to open to 100% capacity, area school boards were given the decision on whether or not districts should continue the mask mandate.
According to previous reports by the Amarillo Globe-News, the River Road ISD Board of Trustees did not take action modifying and/or eliminating the district’s masking policy, subsequently keeping the current COVID-19 safety precautions in place for the district.
