It is the middle of the night and, half-awake in bed, he hears a sash window sliding open. He slips on his shorts, tiptoes across the hallway, flicks on the light and sees the intruder: tall, baseball cap, tattoos down his arms. Here goes, he thinks, and they âgo into battleâ.
The burglar is dragged outside until the police arrive. Afterwards, the man returns to his life but feels the lingering effects of the trauma, including night-time wakefulness.
