RAMALLAH - A Fatah central committee meeting scheduled for Monday in Ramallah, under the chairmanship of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, could witness further rifts within its leadership as the final deadline to submit candidacy lists for upcoming elections approaches.
Legislative elections are scheduled for May while presidential elections are slated for July.
Sources within the Fatah movement said Abbas intends to push for sanctions against Fatah leader Nasser al-Qudwa in retaliation against his decision to run on an independent list.
