RI unemployment falls to 6.3% as job growth slows

Rhode Island's unemployment rate fell to 6.3%  in April as job gains slowed, the Department of Labor and Training said Thursday.
The state added just 400 jobs in April, compared to 2,600 in March and 1,100 in February. 
The number of employed Rhode Island residents was 505,800, up from 2,400 in March, the DLT reported; the number of unemployed residents — those residents classified as available for and actively seeking employment — was 33,900, down 4,300 from March.

The state labor force shrunk by 1,900 in April to 539,600; it is down 6,100 (1.1%) from April 2020.
