Rhode Island is still in the running to become the sixth state to legalize marijuana in 2021. The original proposal was introduced in March and amended last week by the Rhode Island Senate Judiciary Committee, but it’s looking more like a long shot that the work will be done during the current session. There have been previous efforts to accomplish this in the state going back to 2014.
With little time remaining in its 2020-2021 legislative session, the Rhode Island Senate approved a bill in late June to legalize the possession, purchase, and cultivation of cannabis for personal use for adults 21 and older.
