Restoring forests not a priority in Massachusetts (Letters)
Updated 11:16 AM;
Why is it that restoring our forests is so often proposed as a way of solving the climate crisis yet Massachusetts appears to have a policy of cutting down its public lands to feed the voracious appetite of the forest products industry?
Sixty percent of the state is forest and only 10% of forests are on state land. These are just observations, but so many of the state and town forests that I love have been severely logged, almost clear cut leaving an occasional tree here and there: the Covey WMA (Belchertown); the Wendall State Forest; the 12 Mile Brook and Thayer Brook in Wilbraham among others.
