LIBERTY — Construction is scheduled to begin this month to restore Little Squaw Creek in Churchill Park, with trees, shrubs and other plants to be installed in the spring.
Churchill Park occupies 14 acres at 1315 Churchill Hubbard Road in Liberty. It’s situated in a wooded setting where area families can enjoy activities in peaceful surroundings. But Little Squaw Creek has a small perennial pond threatening the adjacent park road and infrastructure.
To address this, the township applied for and received a grant through the Clean Ohio Fund to do restoration work on the creek. In addition to stabilizing the bank and protecting infrastructure, the restoration work has been designed to improve habitat and water quality within and adjacent to the stream, according to Judith Mitchell, senior project manager and biologist with Davey Resource Group Inc. in Kent.
