Fitzroy Beach surf lifeguards had an extremely busy Waitangi weekend with hot weather and strong rips resulting in multiple rescues. Lifeguards Kent Fraser, Bella Wansbrough, Emma Jamieson, Sage Prebenga, Colwyn Velvin, Jack Scott, Zac Stolte, Gabriel Isenor.
Lifeguards at a popular Taranaki beach were kept extremely busy on Sunday carrying out multiple rescues.
Fitzroy Surf Lifesaving Club president Todd Velvin said it had been the club's busiest day of the season with about a dozen rescues between 12.30pm and 5.30pm.
Velvin said the club's young lifeguards pulled numerous swimmers to safety from two major rips on their paddleboards.
