One person was killed and seven injured after at least one tornado touched down in St. Landry Parish.
A tornado hit the parish at about 2:15 a.m. Saturday as severe weather rolled across the state, according to a release from St. Landry Parish Director of Emergency Preparedness Van Reed.
“All of a sudden we were spinning like the house in the Wizard of Oz," Marquitha Qubedeaux of Palmetto said. Qubedeaux, Robert Reed and three children ages 14, 10 and 8 were in the home when the tornado hit.
Qubedeaux said an alarm panel in the home went off about 1 a.m., but they went back to bed. After 2 a.m. she was knocked off the bed and was on her hands and knees on the floor while the house was spinning.
