Report: Louisville ranks among top metros for economic development

A national publication has ranked the Louisville region among top metropolitan areas when it comes to economic development.Louisville/Jefferson County ranked No. 8 on Site Selection's list of Top Ranking Metros by Projects Per Capita among metro areas with populations over 1 million, with 32.3 projects per capita in 2020.Chicago-Naperville-Elgin, Illinois-Indiana-Wisconsin was No. 1 for the eighth straight year, according to Site Selection's website. Louisville ranks one spot behind Cincinnati on the ranking, which had 32.6 projects per capita.The ranking is part of Site Selection's 2020 Governors Cup Awards, an annual analysis which recognizes the state with the most qualifying new and expanded facilities per capita.You can find the full rankings here.Site Selection Magazine moved Louisville up two slots from last year's regional ranking list, ranking seventh in the East North Central Region and sixth in the South Central Region, according to a news release from Greater Louisville Inc., the area's chamber of commerce.Rankings are based on the number of new economic development projects brought to the metropolitan area in that calendar year. In 2020, Louisville brought 41 projects, added 2,200 new jobs and $474 million in new investment to the city, the release stated.Click here to read more about the rankings from Louisville Business First.
