This year's deadline for paying personal income tax is Monday, May 17 — and there are late fees if you miss that deadline.
Even Vermonters who apply for an extension to send in documents must pay what they owe by May 17, according to a reminder this week from the Vermont Department of Taxes.
Challenges related to COVID led federal and state authorities earlier this year to extend the tax deadline to a month after its accustomed mid-April date.
"We know that Vermonters are focused on getting vaccinated so filing taxes may not be at the forefront of everyone's mind," wrote Craig Bolio, the state's tax commissioner, in a news release.
