IT WAS the biggest free rock concert ever staged in Scotland – 40 gigs in the space of 12 hours - and it put Glasgow on the music festival map.
The Big Day, which took place 31 years ago this weekend, featured a truly diverse collection of acts, from Wet Wet Wet to Sheena Easton, and turned Glasgow into Party City.
More than 300,000 music fans flocked to the city for the event, which was shown live by Channel 4.
“Sparkle-eyed” Easton, sporting a new hairstyle and fresh from cancelling a recording session in the US to perform in Glasgow, was looking forward to being back on home turf.
