A large green fence and bank had been removed and landscaping undertaken at the request of residents, Mr McSherry stated. The council had sought an architect to outline a project for the repair and upkeep of the wall, but got no responses. They have applied again for increased funding as part of a number of projects, including a wall at Darver graveyard, Louth Abbey and town walls at Millmount.
'We have to conserve and protect it,' he said. 'We have to make sure it does not fall down. Small, young people have been climbing over it and there was a sewer pipe put down near it.' It is feared that might have impacted on the stonework.
