On Saturday 36 members of NWAS, Furness Coastguard & Barrow Lifeboat RNLI and the police attended the scene.
It is believed that the diver and another person with them were unharmed and were persumed to be jumping from the bridge for entertainment.
Stephen Kelland said: “Thirty-six people for some guys swimming – what a joke. Whoever called it in should be arrested for false report.”
Tara Haley said: “Everyone is doing this all over the country as half the people calling them out would have done something they weren’t meant to at some point of life.”
