Re “Biden pledges U.S. support for new climate goals” (Dec. 13): After four years of climate change inaction, even exacerbation of the problem, it is wonderful to hear Joe Biden say, “I’ll immediately start working with my counterparts around the world to do all that we possibly can.”
He will, however, be seriously limited in what he can do if the two Democrats do not win in the January Georgia Senate runoffs, thus leaving a Republican majority. While Biden can take some actions outside the Senate, we urgently need climate change legislation.
Climate change bills need to be brought to the floor of the Senate. All legislation, as well as other important Senate business such as nominations, will be subject to the egregious obstructions of Mitch McConnell (remember Merrick Garland).
