Ratification of Brexit deal gives EU power to enforce hard border on island of Ireland

The ratificaton of the Brexit trade agreement between the UK and the European Union will allow Brussels to enforce sanctions over the UK’s customs arrangements in Northern Ireland – which experts claim could lead to a hard border with the Republic.
Following the ratification of the trade and cooperation agreement between the UK and the EU earlier this week, Brussels now has powers to pull out of tariff-free arrangements if it considers London has broken any terms of the deal.
