Parents unable to return to work due to the relatively high cost of child care in Quinte were thrown a lifeline in Monday’s federal budget to ultimately reduce early learning services costs as the country recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic.
A $30-billion universal child care plan — introduced in Monday’s federal budget to reduce child care costs to $10 a day in its fifth year — would go a long way to lifting some struggling parents out of poverty, say local politicians who will help deliver the program to constituents.
