QUINCY — City councilors at a meeting Monday acknowledged that an entire city department dedicated to diversity and inclusion may not be "in the cards" right now, but still pressured the mayor's administration to take more concrete steps toward a commission to examine equity at city hall.
Anthony Andronico, Ward 2 city councilor, submitted a resolve this week asking for an update on the "formal establishment of the diversity, equity and inclusion commission." In January, councilors asked the mayor's office to form a Quincy Department of Social Justice and Equity, and two months later the mayor said he would instead form a committee to investigate the city's hiring practices and public outreach efforts when it comes to diversity, equity and inclusion.
