Capt. Dawn Ballas of the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office has been a lead organizer for a few years and is also recognized as a regional director, and has been involved with the Special Olympics community in the Pueblo region for nearly 15 years.
"We're pretty excited about this because obviously we didn't have a run last year due to COVID," she explained.
She said that the Wednesday date was due to the vast majority of off-duty law enforcement that could make the event from all of Pueblo County's law enforcement agencies.
Also participating are acting Chief of Police Chris Noeller and Pueblo County Sheriff Kirk Taylor, who have been active in the effort before.
