Program turns community members into overdose lifesavers
The Herald-Times
When a Hoosier overdoses on opioids, time is of the essence. Overstretched emergency medical technicians must often navigate large, rural areas to get to the person in need. Sometimes, first responders don't make it in time and another soul is lost to America's battle with the opioid epidemic.
What if the chances of quickly getting life-saving care to the people who need it could be improved?
The Opioid Rapid Response System seeks to do just that by harnessing existing, widespread technologies to democratize the fight against opioid overdoses. A collaboration between Real Prevention LLC and Indiana University's Prevention Insights, the program utilizes the PulsePoint Respond smartphone application, which alerts users to emergencies occurring in their communities.
