The Great Gasoline Panic of 2021 may be affecting close to 65% of North Carolina convenience stores and gas stations as of 3 p.m. Wednesday, according to national tracking group GasBuddy.com.
That's the highest percentage of the 11 states affected by the Colonial Pipeline shutdown, with Virginia at 44%, and Georgia and South Carolina at 43%.
The situation may be more acutely felt in certain Forsyth County and Triad communities, but it also could be easier to find gas in some areas.
Journal staffers have reported working pumps at Speedway stations on University Parkway and on Sprague at U.S. 52 as well as at the BP at the intersection of Walkertown and MLK. The Speedway, Shell, and Exxon stations on Silas Creek Parkway all had gas Wednesday afternoon without long lines.
