Sir Jackie’s wife Lady Helen, 79, godmother to Anne’s daughter Zara, has battled dementia for six years. It led Sir Jackie, 81, to set up the charity Race Against Dementia, where young scientists try to come up with a much-needed breakthrough using motor racing technological developments.
In their recorded discussion for a series called Memories, Anne, 70, and Sir Jackie recall that initial meeting at The Savoy when they sat together as Daily Express sportsman and sportswoman of the year.
Sir Jackie remembers telling a photographer he was in a rush and had only five minutes to pose for a photo. He later realised it was portrait photographer Yousuf Karsh, famous for his 1941 picture of wartime leader Sir Winston Churchill depicting his defiance.
