Prince Philip, renowned for speaking his mind, was well known for his wit, sharp tongue and memorable one-liners.
These one-liners often made headlines that, eventually, turned into long lists of what are often labelled ‘gaffes’. However, many were offensive, others plain racist or sexist.
Even when he announced he would retire from public life, at 96, he did so with a trademark quip.
At a reception with Prince Philip, also known as the Duke of Edinburgh, and his wife the Queen, a guest said he was sorry to hear the duke was standing down.
