Director at the house of latin of america joining us from tehran. Hello, mr. Shad, be pleasure to have you on this uh bulletin joining us, um, your thoughts on the significance of todays vote. Well, uh, this is very important election for the people of iran, because of the fact that iran is uh, right now, at this moment under escalated threats. By the United States and the imperialist camp uh threats of aggression, they even talk about nuclear bombs, for what reason, because we are defending the people of kasa. We are people defending the people of palestine, we are defending our national sovereinity, our independence, our freedom, so the election is taking place at such a context that requires very strong message by the people of iran to the enemies of our country that we are here, ready to defend our country to change the things that needs to be changed, but. What we need and what we emphasize is that we do not need your intervention, any intervention by the enemies of iran uh is not accepted and is not going to be tolerated. This is the context of the election, and what is very important is that at this election we are witnessing the presence of independent candidates that are calling for ch. Is uh in order to bring a better life for people and yourself, mr. Shari, as i perceive that you are a registered voter, what kind of uh change or what kind of uh, what would you like your vote to represent or what kind of change would you like to see it bring about or continuity for that matter . Well, you said it correctly, that first i start with the continuity, iran is defending there is. Resistance movement, the antiimperialist movement in our region and in a wider scale throughout the world, we want the continuation of such policy. Iran is acting as major player in the changing, in the changing order of the world. We want the continuation of that, we want the continuation of cooperation with bricks and other institutions, board institutions that are challenging. Imperialist world order, so this is one aspect, and in regard to the changes in the country, there are lots of areas that we do need change, we need change uh in regard to economic policies, we need change in regard to social policies, cultural policies, and its quite natural, a conscious nation, a conscious people constantly strive and struggle for change, and iran is no exception in that regard. So there is a wide range of areas that uh we call for change, especially more specifically, more importantly, our group, in this election we have participated as an alliance of the antiimperialist left in iran, we call for the right of the workers to be organized, to have their parties, to have their salaries equal to the rate of inflation, these are the things that we call. Uh in this election uh and we participate in this election for this purpose and before you let you go mr shout, i dont if you watch your previous bulletin but we were joined at one of these voting uh centers a Catholic Church by orthodox catholic i should uh say that we we had an archbishop say that in a successful election is a sign of a stable country and a stable iran makes for a stable region. How important is irans stability for the region of west asia . Well, this is very very crucial the stability in iraq, as you see, and what we are witnessing is that more and more the other nations in our region are recognizing that we have to be together, we have to be united against the common enemy, you remember few years ago the iran did not. Have a Good Relationship with the saudi arabia, now things are being changed, not only with saudi arabia, with other countries in our region, we are having a better relationship, a more friendly relationship, striving for common goals, common objectives, so its very important the stability of iran, not only for the iranian people, but the the whole people the region and in a wider scale, the whole people of the world, very good, thank you for joining us stay safe sir, Research Director there from house of latin america, joining us from the iranian capital. The iranian Vice President for Parliamentary Affairs has in an interview with press tv earlier, elaborated on the importance of parliament and elections within the constitution of the Islamic Republic of iran. Lets take listen to what he told our correspondent earlier in the day. There is no authority that can dissolve the parliament, in some countries the president can dissolve the parliament and and all the parliaments have continued the work until the very end and the resolutions the parliament cannot be dismissed but in the us, the president can veto the resolutions or. So not only can the president not remove and dissolve the parliament in ran, but its a president that can, its the parliament that can remove the president in iran, and joining us, one of the Voting Centers in the iranian capital, is gisu misha ahmedi for an update, hello, gisu, tell us how things are going there at the uh voting center, well danny uh. Like i said as uh we um get through the day and uh as we get closer to uh the final hours of voting we will see more and more people uh coming here to vote and like i said this is um basically um a traditional uh habits maybe we can say of iranians and the way uh they vote so um in uh so many cases we see that the families have made family outing. Out of it, so you see uh parents with their children coming here to vote, you see uh mothers and daughters coming together or uh older parents coming in with their grandchildren, so uh basically this, like i said, is a part of the iranian culture, not just as a social duty to take part in the elections, but it is seen as a show of support for. For the Islamic Republic of iran and also it is considered a religious duty as well. Now something i would like to uh tell you about the voting process and the way it is uh carried out in iran is that you might find it interesting to know that uh the entire uh voting process that you see here, although the infrastructure is provided by the interior ministry, its ordinary people who are holding the. Elections, um, in order to explain that further, uh, i would have to tell you that the people that you see here who are in charge of uh the voting process, the people who are sitting right there behind these uh desks uh, these are ordinary people from the neighborhood uh, and this is mosque in the neighborhood, so its basically the people who are holding these elections, of course the infrastructure is provided by the interior ministry and also the Guardian Council or the Constitutional Council is also a supervisory body that makes sure there are irregularities. Also, as i mentioned before, all kinds of irregularities as of this year can be easily communicated to the interior ministry uh via internet and internet channels and uh this is something new actually. And the interior ministry definitely looks into all of those uh complaints or any reports of irregularities and you see when you speak engage voter sentiments out there what kind of impact uh do voters say they will like to see uh their vote have today what would they like to see stay the same what do they expect from the next parliament uh well the people ive talked to danny most of the. Are not happy with the way the previous parliaments have been uh doing their job, you know the parliamentarians, according to the people i talked to um did not fulfill exactly what they were expected to, particularly uh the parliament which uh actually approved up the uh Nuclear Negotiations with the United States and other world powers and as it turned out there were not exactly. Um specific when it came to voting for that law and there are now looking into you know its interesting to see danny that now we have a generation that has educated itself in who they should vote for, what the criteria should be, what they should look for in a candidate um for him to be chosen to go into the parliament, they know now exactly what they want from the uh parliamentarians, what their expectations are specifically, and they are choosing those candidates based on that criteria, so its no longer just to. Picking a name because theyve just heard that name uh often enough to know that person by name uh they have become more specific in uh trying to see what these what their actions are or how uh good are they at keeping their promises and so on and so forth and weve even had a list in tehran and also some other uh provinces as far as i know where those who provided the list. I explained to you in the morning that some Political Parties and political factions did provide lists, so although people will be voting for people uh for a single person, for an individual uh and not for an entire list, but they have uh provided a list of candidates that were willing to take an oath in front of the camera, explaining exactly in detail what their plans are and taking a note uh as to uh holding their promises in case they do enter the parliament, this was an interesting change, danny, and i think this time around were going to see very different parliament, and uh, to your point earlier in the week, leader of the Islamic Revolution, state ali khamenei, actually implor people to vote, saying, nothing will change if youre dissatisfied with the uh current parliament, do not sit home and do nothing about it, get out, practice your civic duty and vote, exercise your right to vote, especially if you like to. See some change brought about, thanks guys, well check with you shortly, and thanks for that update all morning long there out of that voting center, that was a press tv, there joining us from the iranian cap, and now to the uk. Where veteran pro palestinian politician George Galloway has won vote to become a new law maker following an Election Campaign dominated by israely lobby groups. Well you know, a genocide is not a small thing and the International Court of justice has already sent israel for trial uh having concluded that there were was a plausible case for genocide uh being committed in the gaza strip. Thats not a small. Thing that doesnt happen every day, but the local politicians here in the council and the National Politicians across the consensus of the front benchers, want to pretend that it isnt happening, want to disguise that they are deeply involved in it, theyre giving cover to it and even given military uh collaboration with it. Galloway, whos a leftwing politician, became new law maker . For the northern town of rockdale after running a propalestinian campaign. He won peoples votes through criticizing the labor party and governing officials for supporting the Israeli Regime, labor party with uh which withdrew its support for its own candidate over antiisraely comments was beaten into fourth place. Gallaways victory comes as a growing support for palestine, has brought people out to the uk streets to condemn israeli crimes against the people of gaza. Hundreds of thousands of rallies uh to condemn israel since the beginning of its Genocidal Campaign on gaza started back on the 7th of october and joining us out from london as said puraza press tv correspondents for more on the story hello said hope youre doing well out there in the mid morning uh london what can you tell us about gallowes fate here. Good morning danny, as matter of fact, i am in rochedale, well where the byelection concluded late last night, it was feverilerish evening for the candidates, and as you said earlier, George Galloway, the leader of um work britains workers party, um, common top, winning uh, more than 12. Thousand votes swinging a nearly 40 of the electorate from from labor, that was as much as the turnout that was nearly 40 as well. Which of course was a sweeping landslide victory uh no doubt and the labor candidate azhar ali who was disowned by the party for his antiisrael um comments that came on the uh days before uh the byelection here was held came uh forth which is humiliating as far as the pundits and and uh analysts are concerned for the labor party and the other party is of course didnt have a chance, the conservative candidate didnt even show up, he spent much of his time a holiday, not on the hustings and on the campaign trail, um, but what underpinned the the theme of this election here, the byelection here uh was the issue of gaza, the ongoing israeli genocide, lot of the people we talked to here considered the government as well as the labor party complicity. What is happening there for their support of the Israeli Regime and for enlabeling it to continue with the ongoing massacre. Rochdale has been labor for more than decade now since 2010 and they had nearly 10,00 vote majority here, that now has swung to George Galloway, and as he himself said it, um, this when he took aim at kier starmer, the labor leader, is for gaza, in his word. That kir starma will be paying more for the position he has taken on the gaza geneside and so this could be the beginning of course of similar byelections being lost by labor and of course by the conservatives to independence or to individuals candidates such as George Galloway who is of course himself a former labor member and you say gall has long been ostracized for defending policy. Is for using words like ethnic cleansing and occupation and apartide, and it is quite unfortunate that it took a campaign of genocide for people to start listening to him. That is very good point, and of course he is not the only individual, the only person, politician who has paid the price who have been ostracide, as you say, for their views on the israely. For being critical of what the israel has been committing against the palestinians for decades, more so in the past uh just under five months and the uh death and destruction in in the gaza strip of course is what people have been seeing on their uh screens just like any of us uh since it all began uh there was Chris Williamson another labor mp who was as matter of fact here supporting George Galloway and number of other individuals, academics, whoever you are, if youre critical of israel, you end up paying the price for your abuse, being ostecized, lose your jobs, um, as we have seen for for for a long time happen here, and that of course speaks to the power and influence of the uh socalled israel lobby um retains here in uk politics that goes after everybody and anybody that is critical um of the zientist regime and of course. Prevents progressive candidates, propalestinian candidates from getting elected into the British Parliament or in the positions of power, but things have shifted this time around and that is manifest in the fact that an independent candidate other than the political, the main Political Parties, namely conservative and and labor has now been elected. An important point of course to mention here is thatdale is home to a 3000 strong Muslim Community who are as outraged and enraged by what has been happening in the gaza strip and of course in the west bank and the complicity of the British Government and the labour party in in in at all and that of course has resulted in people voting not for the party they had voted for so many years but for George Gallaway it wasnt necessarily one um issue vote, there were other issues that people took into consideration as their caster bs and they made it clear to us as matter of fact that they werent only uh voting on the issue of gaza, the britain butter issues such as the um declining Health Services in the city, the problems with unemployment, healthcare, poverty as well as crime, those other issues of course um help determines peoples vote and and galloway as we understand um offered a series of plans uh that appeal to the voters here, but top. Top of it all, as i say, was of course the unfolding genocide in the gaza strip that the tipped the balance towards George Galloways favor. All right, thank you said, stay safe, pleasure to check in with you. Press tv said joinings there out of london, and that brings us to the conclusion of your press tv news bulletin, everyone, thank you for tuning in and goodbye for now.
