Garner girls basketball coach William Stigler said his team will be back in the state championship game next season after a runner-up finish against Vance on Saturday.

Ladies, if you could introduce yourselves in your class. I'm Canadian belt and I'm a senior. I'm swim back in, and I'm a senior. Only joining chaos. And I'm Jay. Awesome. Okay. Yeah. Come on in, honey. So we can see it. All right. We'll open the floor up to questions. Go ahead. Why don't you guys play this year? Several times you've always been able to score baskets, but today we just couldn't score baskets. What was it? It's like, Why didn't that? Well, I think it was more so, uh, nerves. You know, I've never been here before. A lot on the line? No, uh, four seniors leaving. I mean, it was just a lot of nerves. Emotions and and the ball. Justin, Justin, drop forward today, you know, don't make any excuses for for our arms shooting. Just wanna going in today. Kind of frustrating for the girls. What was? What was the reaction after the game when it was all over? Frustrated? Yes. They were frustrated because We haven't won a state championship for women since 1978. We haven't even been in the championship since 1978. So there was a lot riding on the line, and I believe that we put a little more pressure on ourselves to win the game versus just going out playing the game. So we're looking back, what a season for you guys. I mean, I'm sure that's what you're taking from for everything. Oh, yes, Um, we've we've learned a lot and going from, um, underdogs the beginning of the year. Nobody, um, gave round of women's basketball program any credit. So we want Conference Regional and to be state runner up, all in the same year as a big accomplishment for broader magnet high school and the governor community. Because we just just this season this year with the covid and everything. And it starts and stops me to get through the season and play the way you guys did. And that's a crazy guys. Well, I give credit to my captain not to bail swim bastion journey, Chiacu. And they were the ones that I enforce the standards. When when I went around, because as a coach. I can't watch 12 players all the time. They were the ones making sure that they say they say 6 ft apart that they had the mask on. So I get my captains the credit for us being able to even be here for this state championship game. Congratulations on getting this car coach. Everybody talks about dancing size inside. What was the game plan going in to try to take away some? The game plan was trying to force the tempo. If we could have forced the tempo to get them out of position, to get them, get them tired. But as any coach, no, it's hard to force the tempo when you can't rebound. I mean, they were on the glass, you know? I can't take anything from pants. They're they're a really good team. But I can't take anything from going to high school either. Were a really good team that just headed off that specifically for journey. What was your feeling today in terms of you? Um, I was just off, couldn't get in the rhythm, um, in the slum ballgame like coach said it was just a long day to have a do you think that guards kind of bothered you at all today? I mean, you know, have them all this can get on mhm. Uh, Langston are Langston's gone, Nick? Any questions for the coach and his players? Coach? You guys made obviously a deep run this year. Um, and you're just a few years removed as a program from, you know, not. This isn't This is new success for Garner Gross basketball. This isn't something that has happened year after year after year. How do you think that the momentum is going forward? Obviously, you bring back some talent next year. Do you think this is putting garner on a on a good track forward? Yes, I do. Uh, as I said before to, uh, start the season, no one. No one gave us any credit at all. Um, they were always talking about other teams being better in the east. And I knew I had a good team. I'm returning, Uh, three of my five starters. They'll be back next year, and, uh, yes.
