Power plant costing taxpayers $600m to run at two per cent 26/05/2021|9min
Resources Minister Keith Pitt has defended the federal government’s decision to fund a new gas power station in the Hunter Valley.
The $600 million power plant at Kurri Kurri has been criticised after it was revealed the government plans to run the station at two per cent capacity.
Mr Pitt told Sky News this was a "good decision" from the Morrison government.
He said gas-fired turbines can “run for a continuous amount of time and “can be done in a very fast period”.
“If we can make them affordable, probably around $6.00 gas, then it ensures that there is affordable, reliable, dispatchable power in New South Wales."
