PIERRE – Bennett Dean homered and drove in four runs and Jack Van Camp fired a two-hit shutout Friday as Post 8 ran past Yankton 10-0 in the first game of a South Dakota Class A Legion state tournament series at Hyde Stadium.
Dean gave the Eights their first two runs with a two-run shot in a six-run second inning. Lincoln Kienholz had two hits and an RBI. Jack Merkwan and Elliott Leif also drove in runs. Jayden Wiebe had two hits. Van Camp struck out six and walked four.
Post 8 will look to advance to the state tournament in game two of the best-of-three series Saturday at noon at Hyde Stadium. A Yankton win would force a third game, shortly after game 2.
