Two Portuguese nationals residing in Macau have been distinguished in the Tokyo International Photography Award, with emphasis on the two awards (silver) won by João Miguel Barros.
João Miguel Barros secured, in addition to two honorable mentions with the project "Jamestown", two 'silver' awards with the work "Akuapem", in many other categories: Editorial/Sport and Editorial/Photo Essay.
"My work was again distinguished this year", stressed João Miguel Barros, whose work "Akuapem" portrays "the traditional Festival of Odwira celebrated in Akuapem, Ghana, integrating multiple cultural, religious and traditional activities among them, boxing", with the work including "two sets of images of various fights taking place on this occasion in a public square full of people".
