PORTSMOUTH — Police officers Alex Mulcahey and Seth Chavez were responding to a call at 53 Holiday Drive when they saw a man armed with what they thought was a gun coming toward them with “a purpose.”
There was a lot of people around, and a lot of kids out on the playground playing on June 26 when the suspect “charged right at us,” Mulcahey said.
Chavez knew the suspect “was coming after us,” but said he was more concerned “about him hurting somebody else.”
“I was afraid he was going to attack somebody else, maybe a child. More than anything else we had to stop him. It was pretty scary with how aggressive he was and how many people were around,” Chavez said about the early afternoon incident. “My initial thought was he was going to hurt somebody.”
