Porirua City Council to spearhead push for puppy farming legislation, despite divided council vote

Porirua City councillor Geoff Hayward was a vocal supporter of the puppy farming remit.
Cr Euon Murrell​ felt pursuing the matter without evidence that it was a live issue in the city was “a waste of officers’ time”.
“We've got more important things to worry about in the community than puppy farms which would not appear to exist in this part of the world,” Murrell said.
While Mayor Anita Baker supported the remit, she expressed concern about Porirua being perceived as having a puppy farming problem if the council spearheaded the process.
