The Pontiac Elks Lodge Scholarship program has been in existence since 1980. A release from the Elks Lodge notes that the 41 years is a long tradition of helping children of Pontiac Elks members in pursuing a higher education.
The scholarship fund has been set up so that the principle used to start the fund can never be used as a scholarship award, which means that only the interest and dividends are used to provide scholarship awards to children of Elks Lodge members.
There have been 391 scholarships granted in the 41 years of the program, including eight this year. The total amount of awarded money totals $245,180.
