The draft legislation in question was submitted by Poland’s ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party and concerns foreign-owned media. The draft, which states that the capital of companies from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) cannot exceed 49% of the ownership of Polish media, was adopted by the parliamentary committee for culture and media.
TVN, which is owned by the Discovery group, is known for its critical attitude towards PiS.
Among the letter’s authors, are film director Agnieszka Holland, feminist philosopher and publicist Magdalena Środa, as well as Marta Lempart, leader of abortion rights group Women’s Strike.
