Police confirm nine people were injured in a shootout that detectives believe was between two rival gangs.
Eight people suffered gunshot wounds, and the ninth person sustained an injury from glass.
MASS SHOOTING UPDATE: Commander Verdi updates @ABC6 that 8 of the 9 victims that were hospitalized were shot. One of the victims was injured due to glass fragments.
Providence Public Safety Commissioner Steven Pare told ABC6 on Friday that eight of the nine victims are men, and all victims are between the ages of 19 and 25.
“We think it stems from a neighborhood feud between these so called gang folks. We know them, and this is a continuation of retaliation against one another. So that’s what we think motivated this shooting last evening,” Pare said.
