The El Paso police SWAT team rescued two small children and took a man into custody Monday afternoon in East El Paso.
The SWAT team and crisis negotiators dealt with a man barricaded in a home with two small children in the 2200 block of Cumbre Negra Street near Montwood Drive and Yarbrough Drive.
The situation began as a domestic violence incident when the man allegedly assaulted a woman and broke her cellphone to prevent her from calling for help, said Sgt. Enrique Carrillo, a police spokesman.
While doing online homeschooling, one of the children asked a teacher for help. The teacher called 911, leading to a police response, Carrillo said.
