Police sergeant given final written warning over 'reckless' joke which injured colleague
An Essex Police sergeant has been served a final written warning after a colleague was injured.
An investigation was launched after a police constable reported that she had been injured by Sergeant Paul Wigington after an incident at Grays Police Station in November 2019.
A misconduct hearing took place this week at Chelmsford Civic Centre.
The panel, led by legally qualified chair Stephen Gowland, heard that Sgt Wigington and the constable had engaged in a friendly joke a short time before the incident occurred.
The constable was then approached from behind by Wigington, who put his arms around her upper chest, before lowering her backwards to the floor.
