Greensborough Highway Patrol are investigating following a two-car collision in Epping on Thursday evening.
Investigators have been told a silver Holden Commodore was observed by police travelling north on Edgars Road at a fast rate of speed when officers attempted to intercept the vehicle.
The vehicle failed to pull over and police did not pursue the vehicle.
A short time later, the vehicle collided into a black Hyundai at the intersection of cooper street about 10.20pm.
A driver of the Commodore, a 19-year-old Hampton Park man, was ejected from the vehicle and sustained serious injuries.
Two passengers, aged 19 and 21 both from Mt Evelyn, were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
