BC Coroners Service has been notified by police and both are investigating, Const. Crystal Evelyn said in a press release.
The multi-day search began on Thursday, Jan. 28, at about 7:30 p.m. when reports of a man in the river drew police, fire and ambulance crews to an area of Schubert Drive in North Kamloops between Chestnut Avenue and Oak Road.
According to police, eyewitnesses reported seeing a man walking into the North Thompson from the Tk'emlups te Secwépemc side of the river, dunking his head into the water and trying to swim across. The man then bobbed up and down several times before disappearing under the surface. Other witnesses reported seeing a white man in his 30s who appeared lost about two hours prior to emergency crews responding to the scene. The man was described as wearing a blue jacket with its hood up and, possibly, a ball cap underneath.
