Police recover 52 stolen cars and arrest 31 people, including kids, in a week

Newark, N.J., police have recovered 52 stolen cars and made 31 related arrests in the past week — with a 13-year-old among those charged.
The Newark Department of Public Safety’s auto theft initiative has yielded 110 arrests so far this year — an increase of 34% from the same period in 2020. Cops have recovered 1,054 stolen vehicles, police said Monday.
On Saturday, police arrested a 16-year-old driving an SUV reported stolen in Springfield as well as his two passengers — a 13-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl. The three ran from the car when police spotted them on Irvine Tuner Boulevard and were caught following a foot chase, police said.
