The country's top four military chiefs and national police chief reported for duty as newly appointed senators on Wednesday.
Under the constitution, the 250 senators appointed by the now-defunct National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) have to serve for a five-year transitional period following the 2019 general election.
Six of the Senate seats are reserved for the supreme commander, the army, navy and air force chiefs, the defence permanent secretary and the national police chief.
