Police: Family Dollar manager in Oswego County lied about armed robbery, tried to steal $3K

Williamstown, N.Y. — The manager of an Oswego County Family Dollar is behind bars after state police said she stole $3,000 from the store and then reported an armed robbery to cover up the theft.
Kathryn E. Smith, 33, of Hannibal, is charged with falsely reporting that a robbery occurred at the store, located at 518 State Route 13 in Williamstown.
State police were called to the store Monday, Dec. 7 at 10:24 p.m for a reported robbery. There troopers spoke with Smith, who police said told them that she was getting into her vehicle when a man approached her, displayed a knife and demanded money. She told police that the man made off with $3,000 in cash and ran off behind the building.
