BIRMINGHAM — Birmingham police are cracking down on street racing.
According to Sergeant Rodarius Mauldin, the Birmingham Police Department conducted a street racing operation on Saturday night, resulting in one arrest and 28 citations. Mauldin says a coordinated operation, which consisted of tactical officers, detectives, patrol officers, task force officers and Star One air support, played out in two Birmingham locations Saturday night.
Officers responded to both George Ward Park and Sloss Furnace where authorities believe large groups of street racers and spectators have gathered in the past. During the operation, BPD recovered a firearm and a Corvette stolen out of Georgia. The suspect was arrested for receiving stolen property, violation of state firearms act, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana.
