A “motivated and opportunistic” offender stole a police car after finding the keys had been left inside, prompting a review by police.
Canterbury District Commander Superintendent John Price said the offender had been stopped by police due to concerns with their driving in Christchurch in August 2020.
Police tried to protect the public and the driver by removing them from the road, but the “motivated and opportunistic” offender “wilfully broke the law” by stealing a police vehicle and committing other offences.
