All participants at US President Joe Biden’s summit, except Australia, were able to commit to specific, quantifiable, targets implying that the “technology” issue was no barrier to them, and shouldn’t be a barrier to Australia as claimed by Scott Morrison (“PM wavers on targets as Biden pledges to halve US emissions”, April 23).
Setting no targets, the PM preferred to waffle on disingenuously, spruiking a snake oil yarn about the world being reassured, and future generations thanking Australia for making “bankable” non-specific “commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions”. On present performance his “bankable reassurance” is nothing but a transparent overdraft of hot air that future generations, rather than giving thanks, will be spending lifetimes repaying.
