CHATHAM, Va. â During its regular meeting session on Tuesday night, the Pittsylvania County Planning Commission voted to deny a special use permit for a kennel.
At the meeting, Patricia Barker requested this permit for a dog grooming and boarding business she was hoping to start out of her property.
âI just resigned from a 16-year job in the hopes of grooming and boarding dogs,â she said.
Her property lies on one acre of land, and she also purchased an additional four acres that would allow her to run this business. However, concerned neighbors voiced their disapproval of the kennel, noting that it would add traffic to the residential area, increase noise due to the dogs and could depreciate the value of their property.
