The Government has authorized the affiliation of all Peruvians with no health insurance in the national territory —regardless of their socioeconomic status— to the Comprehensive Health Insurance (SIS) scheme.
This is established by Urgency Decree No. 046-2021, published in the official gazette El Peruano, which aims to adopt extraordinary measures in economic and financial matters in order to ensure the protection of all Peruvians who experience a negative event and have no health insurance, within the framework of the state of national emergency declared because of COVID-19.
The regulation states that SIS will finance the affiliation, as well as the provision of health care to the entire undocumented population in Amazonian and high Andean native communities lacking health insurance.
