Perth’s hospitals are operating at 90 per cent maximum capacity due to staff, equipment and funding shortages preventing the opening of more than 400 beds including 178 sitting empty in decommissioned wards.
The shortfall comes as medical bodies continue to sound the alarm over doctors and nurses being overworked, with reports of patients overflowing into corridors and internal emergencies to clear beds being regularly called.
