PERRIN – Perrin-Whitt CISD school board members weighed in on whether or not to allow home schooled students to participate in school activities during the regular board meeting Tuesday, July 20.
This discussion was in response to Texas House Bill 547 which was signed into law by Gov. Greg Abbott on June 18. According to University Interscholastic League (UIL) rules, before the bill was signed, districts could allow home schooled students to compete, but only if they were enrolled in at least four hours of in-school instruction. HB 547 allows home schooled students to compete without the enrollment requirement and also allows school districts to opt out, if they choose.
