Due to the very low conviction rate in rape cases, a large majority of rapists in Bangladesh believe they will get away with the crime, said Manusher Jonno Foundation executive director Shaheen Anam yesterday.
Delayed justice, lack of monitoring and accountability of service providers related to violence against women, and the tendency of blaming victims only fuel the rape culture, she added in her speech as chief guest at a shadow parliament debate competition in the city.
Debate for Democracy organised the competition titled "UCB Public Parliament", with the subject "Parents Are Responsible for Degradation of Dihans".
