PEORIA — Peoria police are investigating what happened to a person they found dead near the Illinois River early Sunday morning.
Foul play is not suspected, and initial investigation indicates the death appears accidental, according to Peoria Police Department spokeswoman Amy Dotson. The Peoria County Coroner's Office will later release the identity and manner and cause of death, she said.
At 6:39 a.m., officers responded to Lorentz Avenue just north of the McClugage Bridge on a report of a man whose body had been found by a Peoria Park District Police officer on routine patrol.
The body was located in a grassy area between the river and a paved parking lot. Several feet away from the body was an all-terrain vehicle. The man had obvious signs of trauma and was deceased at the scene, Dotson said.
