When a person is injured or abandoned, they receive treatment from a healthcare provider or licensed caregiver. But injured and abandoned wild animals in similar situations often suffer and die without assistance.
That’s where Dorothy Kaufmann and The Wildlife Sanctuary of Northwest Florida step in, providing a second chance for at-risk wild animals. For 39 years, the Sanctuary, tucked away on North S Street in west Pensacola, has quietly and consistently been a safe haven for area animals in need.
“The Sanctuary receives 3,000 to 4,000 animals each year and is one of eight in the state of Florida known for eagle rehabilitation. Our community, board of directors, staff and volunteers come together to create the perfect place for us to offer a second chance to wildlife,” Kaufmann said.
